Lady C prefers light but not sun. I crack the blinds open for her, but make it so her cage isn't in the sunshine during the day. If your cavy doesn't have a place to hide, she might prefer the dark.

No direct light however they are creatures of the day and sleep at night mostly. I would make sure to provide bright light as long as the sun does not shine directly on them. Direct light will literally cook your guinea pig within an hour. They do not have sweat glands and therefore the most common death is heat exhaustion from clueless owners.

Give plenty of hidey space for an afternoon nap, but also make sure they get to know when it's day and when it's night.

That's the way I see it anyway.

She's probably pretty lonely when you go to school. Why not adopt her a companion? And make them a really cool cage like the ones at Cavy Cages?

We are new to guinea pigs, but I try to read a lot about them. We find that they like to have the light on in the room. They are in my daughter's bedroom which is right behind the livingroom. So with the light on we can keep talking off and on all day (every time we walk past the door) without startling them. I homeschool so we are at home a lot, so they get talked to a lot. We are working on them letting us petting them and picking them up. We haven't had them very long, but they do real well with settling down at night. They take short naps during the day, but are playing in the hay and chewing their house a lot during the day. We also play a radio (which is on the other side of the room) so that they don't have complete quiet when we aren't here.

I think light during the day, dark at night. Just like they were living out in the wild. I have rope lights on some of my cages, and I have them on a timer.
