Small white bugs on Shadow

Are you sure your vet is cavy savy? Advantage does kill lice.

The lice in the picture show them as long, these were just round dots movin around slowly. Dust mites are round and white and vissible on black surface. But why would she have dust mites on her?

Im gonna look at her again later on when shes completey dry and see what I see.

I cant be sure I never had a vet. And theres only 2 vets in the area that will look at cavys. The first one I called they said it just sounds like dandruff. So i called the next place and they said it sounds like lice. They have been in buisness for 35 years . So thats all I know and they do house calls which might be better for us but still i have to wait and see if they are still there first. .

Guinea pigs don't get dust mites. They get mange mites, and they are microscopic so you can't see them.

Yes, Advantage kills lice. Have you read the pages on Guinea Lynx :: A Medical and Care Guide for Your Guinea Pig about mites and lice yet?

Yes I read it , thats why i was saying they didnt really look like lice . Just white dots moving around.

I checked her again after she dried off and I can see them again.

Shes gonna go to the vet probably saturday.

There no marks on her skin like with mites.

I checked Ziggy over and nothing on him yet.

I am now 99.9% sure its Fur mites. The one thats not harmful or annoying . It says on the guinea lynx form that its treatable with IVERMECTIN . So can I buy this somewhere or is she still going to have to goto the vet. Its going to cost over $150 . Its not cheap around here.

I made an appointment for sat at noon.


So anyone have any ideas how she got these things on her.

Shes never outside.
No other animals over here.
I do keep there pens clean.

Have you been in contact with anyone else's animals? Maybe something hitched a ride on your clothing?

No , havent touched any other animals except my parents dog and we checked him over yesterday and nothin on him.

No animals, no outside, no other animal contact. Maybe they were just hanging around your house... until it found Shadow.
