Default Help - marker on piggies!

I came downstairs this morning and found out that my 5 year old took a red marker to both our guinea pig's faces (she did this while I was still sleeping - grrr).

How can I get this red marker off my pigs now? It's a permanent marker, so it's not going to easily wash off.

Can you call the manufacturer for help?

Poor babies.

Can you make a lid or something so your child does not have access?

Gotta love kids, I actually had this happen to a cat once when my oldest was young. The vet said to shave the area and while they will look silly for a bit it won't harm them, you could ask a vet first but I bet you could trim it out? Maybe also you could ask a groomer to help while you hold...The cat hated it i can only imagine what a pig would do.

yeah, your probobly gonna have to go get them a haircut, inless the hair is too short. then you'll have to wait for it to fade. i know nail polish remover takes permanent marker off of skin when i accidentally write on myself, but its not good to breath in and dries out skin, and i doubt diluting it will help... maybe you could look up something else that will help remove it online

Wait for it to wear off. The manufacturer will likely tell you to use some sort of chemical that is much more harmful then the marker.

I fairly routinely use non toxic permanent marker on my rescue animals. It's helpful to tell look-a-like kittens(and other animals) apart.

I am currently bathing all of my animals and writing my cell phone number on them all (inner leg or belly) for my possibly evacuation from hurricane Gustov. It's a handy trick I created. If the animal gets loose or lost and loses it's collar (if it was wearing one0 the call number written directly on the animal helps anyone that finds it find me.

I'd wait for it to wear off too. It should disappear eventually.

That's a good idea Voodoo. Just wait it out. I know it might seem mean, but I want to see some pics of the colorful pigs.

Yeah, I would wait it. I don't think pigs would do real well with scissors by their face...

As I was reading through other websites trying to figure out how to get the same marker off my walls, I kept coming across the recommendation of baking soda. Hmmmm. I used club soda (which has baking soda in it) for my mouth while I'm on chemo. I figured if it's safe enough to use in my mouth, should be okay for the piggies? I've tried it on the black & white piggie because she's the most noticable (yes... I'll post a picture! lol) and it seems to be working. It will take a few applications I'm sure, but just taking a cloth and dipping it in club soda and rubbing her fur gently seems to be doing the trick.
