Smile Our girls

Sooooo, we're getting 3 pigs this weekend. Three girls. I know the cage they're coming in is way too small but I was planning on building a pen in a few weeks anyway.

I was going to build a 2x4 (or was it 2x5??) cube cage. We were planning on just 2 piggies but now that there is three I need bigger. Would it be ok for me to maybe build a 2x3 on the bottom and another 2x2 on a second level? Or should they have more running room on the bottom. Maybe stick with the 2x4 on bottom and do a 2x2 on top.... Decisions decisions... Space is sort of an issue so I'd like to keep length down however possible.

Then I need a way to put a cover on. One of my cats hops in the rabbit pen. He's never mean or anything but piggies are smaller and I don't want to risk it. i think I'm off to research cage designs.

Oh, and I already have pictures of them. I'm not really sure how to post them. If anyone could help with that it would be very appreciated. thanks!

Hey there,

C and C cages are great and as far as putting a top on them, Im just using the left over cubes and securing them on the top. Ive also seen cages that use wire shelfs as rooves.

I put a put the top of a plastic box on mine. Good luck. I would stick with a 2X5 bottom only. The ramp to a top level could take up more space and make less room.
Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about your cat as much. He's been a round rabbits which are stronger then piggies so I think he will get along fine with them. Not to start a debate here though, if you feel you need a top go with it. My cat gets along with my piggies fine and sleeps int the cage with the piggies. But then again, she grew up with piggies!

I heard that the top level doesn't count too the amount of space. So I would do the 2X5.

We just brought them home and got them set up. The cage is TINY. They definately need more room. Within the next few weeks they'll definately have a bigger pen.

As for the top, I think I'd be more comfortable with one. The cat in question sleeps in my daughter's room, where the piggies are. The kitty tends to get into mischeif at night. I don't think he'd hurt them but he would stir them up and tease them.

They are so adorable! Two of them are sisters, Blossom and Buttercup. The third one, Snickers, was introduced to the sisters a while after they were adopted. All 3 used to be classroom pets. Oh, and Snickers had babies not long after she was adopted by the lady we got her from.

The sisters seem more shy. They're hiding out for the time being. Snickers started romping around and checking things out almost right away. We're leaving them alone for a day or two to adjust to the change. They need to start getting used to being handled again but with time, I'm sure they'll be fine.

I think you can easily rig up a top using grids and white wire shelving.

Aww! They sound adorable. My Beanie was really brave and she got used to everything in about an hour, and let us cuddle her.
