Cavy cages will ship to you & they are the nicest people. Here is their web site Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home

Otherwise contact a local sign company & tell them WHY you need it as they usually will not sell to people who want to make teir own signs.

Make a piggy palace!

Well, grids are easy. You've got 2 Target stores. They are THE choice for cubes for pretty much everyone. $15 for box that will make a decent sized starter cage and they usually come in Black/White/Dark Blue/Silver too. "Organize-It" is the brand, it's a store brand. They always have them in stock. I believe they are on sale right now for 12.99 in most places.

Googling "coroplast sheets asheville, nc" brings up this place:
Asheville Thermoform Plastics
I recommend giving them a ring to ask them if they carry sheets. Tell them you using for guinea pig cage so that they won't try to overcharge.

They can probably recommend a local sign shop in your area. That's where most of us find our coropolast. It's what most real estate and candidates in elections use to make their signage. It shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks for a 4x8 ft sheet. If they want more I'd keep looking..

Also, ask if they have scraps. They may not tell you unless you ask. You can tape scraps together to make the size you need. Use duct tape on the parts that won't show, for durability, and clear packaging tape on the sides. It works fine for me! I also got a full 4X8 sheet in the scraps section, for a few bucks. It was there because it had a few marks on it, but those marks are on what is now the bottom of the cage, so who cares? keep in mind how big a 4X8 sheet is, before you go to get one. You won't want to have to bend it to get it in your car! another reason why scraps are nice. good luck.

If you don't want to use the coroplast i also use plexiglass and it is alot easier for me to clean up after my piggies, but that's just my opinion. i go to a local hardware shop shop and get the plexi glass, they cut it to my specified cage size and even drill holes for no extra charge. That's just an idea.

Question Re: Need coroplast please help

wendys treasurenook:

I'm wondering if you have Plexiglass or something else instead? Do you have sides on your Plexiglas cage or is it just a flat sheet? Are you sure your talking about Plexiglas (brand name) Altuglas International: Europe/Americas/Asia: Plexiglas® Acrylic Sheet Family and not something other plastic sheeting?http://img.alibaba.com/photo/5035305..._ABS_Sheet.jpg. If you found it at a hardware store, I doubt it's Plexiglass and I think it's really helpful for other forum members to know what we recommend and how to get it themselves...if possible

A sheet of even the thinnest Plexiglas costs about 3 (almost 4) times what a sheet of Coroplast costs, (at $72 for a 48x96 sheet) in addition I don't know if it can be bent to make the all important sides on the cage. It's usually heavy and dense, and what is used to make acrylic display cases. It seems that there are tons of different kinds of Plexiglas for different uses as well, which further complicates the matter for me.

ABS Sheeting looks to cost about double that of Coroplast. If you cut and glued it so that you could have sides it would be huge project, which makes me wonder if you have something different?

Typically, Plexiglas can't be rolled or bent and put into a car either. You would have to have a huge vehicle or truck to get it home. Were you able to locate some that is bendable?

These are a few of the reasons why the general consensus is to recommend Coroplast. Personally, I have used it for a year with 3 pigs and there is no issue with cleaning it at all. However, I do use a fleece bedding system so maybe it's different for me.

No, I do have plexiglass. I have it cut to the specifications to the bottom of my cage size and then i have the side pieces (about 7" tall) cut as well. The hardware store is just a local run business in my area, it's not a big chain, just a mom and pop business. They cut the plexiglass for me and even drill the holes in it. I have holes drilled in the bottom and the side pieces and attach them together with plastic zip ties. They are very sturdy and it doesn't take long to zip tie all the sides, this way there will be no bedding flying out of the cage. The sides get zip tied to the bottom piece, you just match up the holes and that's it. Then when it comes time to clean, I just use a big dust pan and scoop the old bedding out and in with the new. I do of course, wipe out the soiled areas, but most of my piggies use their litter pans. so most of the mess is in there. This was just a suggestion. It's personally easier for me to use plexiglass instead of the coroplast because you have to scrub the urine and poopy spots with using the coroplast, where with the plexiglass, you just wipe it down and it's as simple as that, no scrubbing involved. I do have coroplast on one of my cages, but i still prefer the plexiglass. It only cost me about $25.00 to get the plexiglass cut to the size i needed and the holes drilled, but it will last a lifetime. I think well worth the money spent.
