Default Rough, dry feet - suggestions?

I have an older guinea pig who has rough, dry feet. They form dead skin which I need to trim off now and again so that it doesn't affect her walking. She has always had this problem since I got her from the pound as a youngster. She is now 5 years old. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort from this condition. All my guinea pigs are bedded on fleece. This one in particular was bedded on ceder chips orginally (this was in her cage at the pound, and I switched her immediately on coming home because ceder impedes my ability to breathe) and then on cardboard squares (stall refresher), and now on a plain white fleece blanket. I have obtained animax ointment from the vet which helps temporarily, but causes her to jump when I put it on. I was wondering if there are any home remedies for this that I could try that might be more effective?

They are housed in C&C cages btw.

Sounds like it may be bumblefoot? Or at least foot spurs
