Something different
So I have to do a research paper for my college composition class and we were told to pick a subject that we are passionate about this way the assignment wont be torture. I thought for a while about different subjects that I could base my paper upon and one thing kept popping back into my head "Pet store animal treatment" (or lack there of). Since I will be entering a proffesion of small animal care, I feel this topic would not only help me learn more but also educate others about the way pet stores treat the animals that are suppose to be in thier care.
Now to the real reason as to why I am writing this. We need to find different online sites that have statistics, facts, and basic research that supports what we are writing about. What better place to come to get helpful links to support the fact that pet stores do not treat there animals properly than here? If anyone has a website that offers stats involving pet stores purchasing animals (i.e. every one small animal sold in a pet store equals 4 more that can be bought from a mill) I would really appriciate it. I want to gather all the information I possibly can. This is not only a learning experience for me, but also a way that I can get the word out to people that wont listen. Hopefully Ill get an "A" and my professor and fellow students will learn a thing or two in the process.
Any links will help! Thank you all in advance.

Re: Something different
I know about that 4 animal thing. They buy each pig for $8 and charge $40 so pretty much 4 and some to support their torture.
www.petsmartcruelty.com Try www.youtube.com and look up pet store cruelty and there are lots of videos with pictures of hamsters... I know how hamster crazy you are!

Re: Something different
Speaking of hamsters, I may actually be considering getting another. I need to look at a local rescuse called Judge's Animal Park and see if they got any little guys in.

Re: Something different
I was considering going there for a piggie I saw on petfinder awhile ago. Good for you! I was wondering if hamsters do better alone or with a buddy.

Re: Something different
It depends on the breed. Syrians HAVE to be loners because they will fight and even kill a cage mate. Dwarf hamsters can do well in pairs--with them its more trial and error, if you notice they are fighting with thier cage mate then of course they would need seperated.

Re: Something different
Yea, hamsters are great little pets as long as you find ones that arent biters. The only bad parts are they fling poo and since they are small the squeeze everywhere! The first week I had my hamster, he got into a little opening under our bathroom sinks (silly me took him in there to play thinking there was no place he could go) my dad literally had to rip off the base board and part of the cabinet then used a thin leather belt, slipped it under Hammy's bum and slid him out. Needless to say, that never happened agian ahah

Re: Something different
Heck yes. I was terrified, he was only about 2 months old at the time and I thought he was going to be stuck forever. Thankfully there wasnt anything sharp that could harm him. It was basically just wood so he was fine. He was a plump hamster so we were also afraid that he got himself in but was to erm "heavy" to get himself out.
