Question Litter training?

Is it possible to litter train guinea pigs?
Since rabbits can do it, wouldn't pigs be smart enough, too?

Chutt was trained to a corner litter box and used it 99% of the time. If she was being held, she even would tell us by lightly nipping at our hands or pulling on our sleeves that she needed to use her potty spot.

Unfortunately, when we adopted Ginger, she did NOT want to use the potty spot, and prefered to pee on whatever (or whoever) she sat on. I was kind of hoping Chutt would clue her in, or she'd learn by example, but instead Chutt has become de-trained!

I think a lot depends on the temperment of the individual cavy. Some cavies want privacy when they "go", and these are the easy ones to train.

I've been trying to train mine, I bought a little litter box and have been putting their mess in there to try to give them a clue, and it's in the corner they like to use. But, both my boys seem to hate it and they dump the box all over the cage.
I think it may be a hopeless case. lol.

The closest I have come to littlertraining is to put a litterpan under their hay rack. GPs, like rabbits, like to poop and pee while eating. Therefore most of their urine ends up there and keeps the rest of the cage cleaner.

I don't know if they can really be trained. I think some guineas just have preferences. My older pig Davy will drop a few little poops around his cage but he will always pee in the same spot and it's usually a corner of his choosing, regardless of where the little box is and my younger pig Sammy will just pee and poop as he goes. I think you just kind of have to take the cue from them.
