Smile My two piggie's

Hi there

I got two guinea pigs on thursday, they are 8 week old sisters, they are ginger and white and really tame. One (trixie) is tamer than the other (maisy). Please can you help me and tell me what other fruit&veg they can have apart from apples and carrots?

thank you.

Neither.

You want a recycled newspaper product, like Carefresh or Yesterday's News, or a shavings like kiln dried pine or aspen. Never cedar.

They should eventually calm down, especially if you bring them veggie treats every time you come in the room. By doing that they will see you entering as a good thing and may start running to the side of their enclosure to greet you and beg for treats.

Some pigs just have a skittish personality though and always startle when there is a loud sound or sudden movement. It's not personal.

It might help if their enclosure is up off the floor, too. Being small prey animals, they tend to hide if something comes toward them from above. Approaching them from their eye level seems more comfortable to them.
