Default how to get the smell out of the fleece?

I wash the cages once a week and sometimes I let them go through the washer a few times, but the smell never goes away. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the smell?

Guinea pigs just have a distinct smell. Sometimes when you use too much detergent it binds with the urine and makes it smell 10x faster. If you think that might be happening I would use less of it. Or I would try using vinagar since it's one of the safest anti-bacterial cleaners out there.

I always throw vinegar in the washer and our fleece still stinks. I'm thinking of soaking it in a 50/50 vinegar and water bath for an hour or so.

Ahh, and the pigger in my lap just had a tasty poo.

I alternate between vinegar in the rinse cycle and Bac Out (it's one of those enzyme type products). If you can pre-soak for a bit in vinegar it may help.

Would Nature's Miracle work the same way?

I use warm water, fragrance free laundry soap and 1/2 cup of OxiClean in the washer and let it soak overnight. Then I just spin out, no rinse, and run a full wash cycle with a vinegar rinse. It does a pretty good job with the odor.

I've started using Gain with baking soda and I've noticed a HUGE difference in the smell. I used to use vinegar but I didn't like the smell. The fleece doesn't smell like the Gain either. It doesn't smell like anything once it's all rinsed and dryed.

I use vinegar in my wash, if I feel the smell is strong, along with detergent. even a little bit always helps. If I dont want to use detergent or its too strong, I soak the fleece in vinegar water and then run it through the hot cycle
