Default piggie pee question

Roy's hind-end always seems to be covered in pee. I don't know much about his medical history, he is over a year old (that's all the info the girl I got him from gave me). I have not noticed him showing any discomfort while urinating or blood in the urine (anything that would set off alarms). His appetite is great (he's a piggie after all), his weight is holding steady, and I can't see any outward physical change in him, he looks pretty healthy. I change his bedding regularly. Is any of this normal? If not, what's up with Roy? Thanks.

It's normal, especially with males and long haired GPs. Males tend to drag their bottoms a bit, both because of their testicles and also because they drag to mark their territory. Therefore they drag their butts in their pee and get. Long haired pis have their hair drag thus causing the same problem.

If he has long hair keep it trim on his butt and sides. Give him occasional butt baths (butt only) if he gets too dirty. Keep his cage as clean as possible and do daily spot cleanings to remove the wet/soiled areas in between full cage cleanings. All of those things together should make a huge difference.

Thanks for the info. I was starting to think that is he isn't sick then he may just be lazy. I have had other caged critters (Roy is my first guinea pig) before and they always seem to use one section of their habitat for potty purposes. Roy just goes wherever, even in his igloo that he sleeps in.

I have a pig (female) that loves to pee where she sleeps. Some pigs are neat and some are, well, pigs.

If your cage is too small that may also be part of the problem. If you haven't upgraded your pet to a C&C cage please do look into it. It's cheap and easy. Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home
