Default Pig allergic to bedding?

Hey Everyone! I have a question about bedding.

Every once and a while my piggy will make sort of a wheezing noise. It mostly happens at night when I'm sleeping and sometimes it's loud enough to wake me up.

I took him to the vet today just to make sure it wasn't a URI or any other nasty ailment. She said there was nothing wrong (phew!) but there is a possibility he may be allergic to his bedding.

I use fleece with towels, puppy pads and then newspaper just for good measure and I rotate clean bedding often. She said the problem might be the detergent I use to wash the fleece and towels. She suggested a loose bedding made up of newspaper.

Has any one else had a piggy allergic to fleece bedding?
What have your experiences been with newspaper bedding?

I'm not really thrilled about switching to a loose bedding. I like the look of the fleece and I find it easy to use but I want to do what's best for my pig.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Try liquid detergent. Powder detergents are highly allergy causing, even for humans (which is why I switched). My pigs (I have 8 now) sneeze much more with a loose bedding than now with fleece. They also seem to like the firm footing.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice but I already do use liquid detergent.

I am attempting scent free, dye free liquid detergent.
