Default I want to adopt a GP

Hi,

I would much rather adopt than buy from a pet store but I am having trouble finding places to adopt from. I did find a person not far from me but they are not returning my phone calls or emails. A couple months ago I went to our local SPCA to look into adopting a GP. After several trips which takes almost an hour to get there I found a GP that I wanted. I filled out the adoption application and listed my Father-in-law as the owner of the property. My husband and I live on his property but have our own house behind his. So technically we live on his property. Before I handed in the application I explained to her that my Father-in-law had a stroke and that his speech was impaired slightly. After I turned in my application I stayed for about an hour to play with this beautiful GP that I wanted. By the time I got back home my Father-in-law said that the SPCA called confirming the adoption. I was surprised they called so fast. He said they would call be back by the end of the day. By the following day I hadn't received a phone call yet so I tried calling them and seemed like I was getting the run around. On the following day I drove back to the SPCA to find out that the GP I wanted was adopted out to someone else. After an hour of trying to find the lady that processed my application I was told the reason why I was denied was because my Father-in-law sounded intoxicated because of the way he was slurring his words. I couldn't believe what this lady was saying to me. I told her that my Father-in-law had a stroke last year and it affected his speech. She didn't want to hear what I had to say and was told that as long as I am living on that property I will not be allowed to adopted from the SPCA. I am at a loss as to what I can do to adopt, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dawn

Have you looked on this website? You may be able to find a rescue or a different shelter. You can also try Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. .

You need to talk to theoffice/adoption manager there and report the situation. This woman is overstepping her boundries by making a judgement like that. To back up your father-in-law's condition you may want to get a doctor's note as well.

What is the name of the other rescue/person? It may be someone we know. Keep in mind that rescues are usually run by volunteers who have full time jobs and families as well. They don't always have time to respond to calls and email right away.

Have you checked Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. ?

Hi,

I did report her but I don't think anything will be done about it. What this lady did is not right and she should't be allowed to get away with it. I can't adopt any animal that is being sponsored by the SPCA. I check Petfinder almost daily and not much comes up.

I do have a question about my 2 female GP. I introduced Miss Piggy to Pumkin last week and so far there hasn't been any aggression between the two. Though Pumpkin still is letting Miss Piggy know that she is going to be the queen piggy, how long will this last?

Thanks,

Dawn
