Hello Piggy lovers. We too have been researching the cavies for a while and are now on the lookout for a couple critters - family friendly. We are a very joyous house of 6. Children range from 14 to 8 months with much respect for all gods creatures. We have been to pet stores mostly to gather books and every one we have been to has their piggies on cedar shavings. The information I have suggests this is a poor practice. Am I missing something?? And if we end up purchasing from a pet store for lack of a rescue group in our area, has anyone had a good experience with that kind of purchase??

Please don't buy from a petstore. There are rescues in and around Kansas City I'll try to find some links for you. Even if not in your city it's worth it to drive a little to get a cavy from a respected rescue where they have been quarantined, health inspected and properly sexed.

Hi, Carolself! We have a couple family-friendly critters! Our six kids range in age from 26-6, although the 26 year old boy is moved out and engaged! Having cavies around has been the most amazing learning experience of our homeschooling lives and I recommend it very highly!
