Hi,
I'm sometimes referred to as the "Guinea-Pig Lady" because I can be found in my backyard sitting and enjoying watching my guinea pigs enjoy their playtime outside. I fell in love with the little critters over five years ago when a teacher was going to allow her classroom guinea pig spend the three day vacation at school alone. It horrified me because the poor girl was so heavy with babies in her you could see them moving around. I volunteered to take her home even though I knew nothing about these adorable critters. I guess seeing her give birth and the fact that we had to help her with the fourth baby was a sight of wonder. I was amazed at the babies and how precocious they were. She impressed me also with how wonderful she was with them. I was hooked. Of course we kept two and then almost every time we went to the pet shop for supplies I fell in love with one at the store or felt so sorry for one that I bought it. My husband stopped me from picking up supplies

. Then people who knew I loved them would bring me their unwanted piggies. At one point I had 28. I also teach and loved doing research on my computer and the internet. I educated my self on every aspect of guinea pigs I could find. I'm also a wildlife rehabilitator so their health and care was another thing I was interested in.
Now I conduct animal education classes at school for the children and adults. I bring in other animal enthusiast to talk to the students about their passion and animals. I do a class on the history and proper care and responsibility of owning guinea pigs. I use many of my connections to find new homes for them too.
I have a core group of guinea pigs that I consider to be mine. They travel to school, nursing homes and daycare facilities to entertain and teach people about their sweet nature. We've even been featured on the local news channel in a segment called Pet Pointers, three times! We always impress on everyone one the fact that there's no such thing as a free pet.
My guys also do modeling for greeting cards and calendars. The money I raise with the sale of them goes to help me with my rescues and wildlife rehabilitation.
