My daughter begged me to let her get a guinea pig, promising to take of it 2 1/2 years ago. We named him Shadow and he stole my heart. Less than 2 months later, we ended up with Polly. As much as I loved these 2 guinea pigs, I did not want babies, so I had Shadow nuetured. I found an excellent vet who specializes in exotic animals, which was a godsend, since I was so new at this. My husband was on his first tour in Iraq at the time when I started sending him pictures of the new additions to our family lol
We had started out with a store bought cage, and realized very soon, that it was not what we wanted for them. Through the help of some excellent forums, we put together our own, an open multi level, 7 grids x 3 grids. Took a little time to figure out the design, etc, but we finally got what we wanted for them.
Over the summer, we decided to get 2 more to add to our family. Nugget, a long haired 6 weeks old, she looked like a little collie, and Misfit , she has white rosettes all over with a half brown, half black face with ears that had been "chewed" (poor thing) who was only 5 weeks old.
The 4 of them get along so well, they each have amazing personalities and I could sit for hours just watching them interact with each other.
