Some questions from a new owner...
I have taken in two adult males from a friend who just had no time for thier piggies. I have a one yr old male as it is so now it makes 3. My first question is about there attitude towards eachother..
I slowly put them together because I noticed the one, Evvy, was very dominant towards my previous piggy,Charlie. They seem to be doing fine now, only minor humping and Evvy will sometimes lay on or chase Charlie. I think this is in a playful way but sometimes there is some teeth chattering from Evvy. Should I just leave them be until I see a full blown fight or is the teeth thing a sign they cant be together. Evvy is definatly the King of the cage and chases Pepi around as well and also will guard the water dish. I have put in a second water bottle so its fair. I have no concerns with Pepi and Charlie as I see him sticking up foir the little guy. Does this sound like normal behaviour or should I be concerned?
Also the new piggies have different fur then charlie. Evvy has a light brown coat and his fur is coarse and 'splits" in spots. sort of like a cowlick. Its hard to explain but its not your average looking coat.
Pepis fur is super coarse and curly in a way, feels very wiry.Charlies fur is so soft and silky so to me thats normal.
I could try to take pics if it helps.
Also.....the smell.... I changed there bedding last night and use wood shavings. I already smell an odour. I am reading that maybe this is due to wrong bedding....or the possiblitlity that these piggies are new to me and three pees is alot different then one...
I hope my description is thourough enough...I am just mainly concerned about the behaviour. I am really hoping I can provide them with a good fun loving home...
Thanks

Re: Some questions from a new owner...
Did you just introduce them? It is normal. Do not separete them unless you see blood. If things get cranky take a pan and hit it with a metal spoon. The noise scare them and they will run to their hiddies. How big is your cage? If is too small the smell is going to be too strong and they are going to fight more. Do you have everything tripple? (3 water bottles, 3 plates, at least 2 hay stations...)

Foggy has a good link about Boars behaving badly, maybe she can provide it to you. I do not find it!
Also, you can see introductions in www.youtube.com and make a search here about it. That will give you an idea what to expect. Watch what they are eating. Maybe the dominant one won't let yours eat. We are currentlly hand feedding a sow, because the dominant one doesn't let her eat. She steal their food...

Re: Some questions from a new owner...
If the cage is too small they ARE going to fight. A petstore cage isn't enough space for three boars. It you have a C&C, it doesn't hurt to make it bigger for peace in the piggie world. As cielo said, triple everthing, three hidies, bottle, and food dishes.
As for your babies' coats:
Charlie: sounds like an American to me
Evvy: a definant Abby
Pepi: does he have long hair or short? Eother a Teddy (short hair that sticks straight up all over) or a Texel (long wavy hair)

Re: Some questions from a new owner...
Thank you!! I just got them yesterday! According to the cage sizes mine is a little bigger then the recommendation for 2. I have a Large Marchioro Cage, so its bigger then pictured in the avatar but still too small. I will go ahead and make a C&C. I am so excited to do so, maybe if i make it bigger and have more 'stations' they can get along better and be happier.
What can i use for the bottom?
As for the coats.... pepis fur is more longer then short...it looks as though it was trimmed a bit.It is definatley wavy.
I am going to research each kind.
I appreciate the help and any tips or advice available.
I just want to make them happy and healthy!
Thanks

Cool, for the bottom, I would etheir use a table cloth, shower curtian (thats what I use) or cloroplast (its the best to use).
Good Luck!

Your piggies seem young. Post pics so I can help you with their coats.

Re: Some questions from a new owner...
If you measure the inside of your cage, it is smaller than a 2 by 3 C&C. It is only 6.2 sq ft. The min. is 2 by 3 for a pair but 2 by 4 is recommended esp, for boars.
For 3 boars, you need at least a 2 by 5 C&C. And at least 3 of everything i.e. dishes, bottles and hideys in the cage. Only one food source is not going to work.
