Default A new face.

Hi everyone,

my name is Vicki and I'm a brand new cavy mother. I just got a 3 month old boar named Peanut whose an abyssinian with brown, black, and white spots. He's a shy, sweet boy and I'm looking to get a friend for him soon.

Ciao for now!
Vi

Thanks! I've been a lurker on those sites [and this one!] for about a month and a half. I've been so obsessed with gpigs that I was dreaming about them at night, and I finally was able to get my little Peanut. I've only had him close to a week and he's already starting to bond with me. Do you think an older male, or a younger male would do better? You said an adult boy, but I've also been told a younger one would bond easier with him. I may have the opportunity to acquire one of his babies if it's a boy. They'd be like 2 or 3 months apart. What's your opinion?

I've also been perusing the cage site because I want to build a big cage/run for him/them. Looks like I got available all the materials I'd need. [I went price hunting.]

An older one will be better. Older boars have had very good reports on being with the younger ones! On the other hand, I will be getting a baby for my 3 and a half month old female. She just won't get along with anyone over her age. She wants to be dominant.

Ohh I see. The place where I got her, the lady told me that he was pretty good friends with this other cavy but it was a bit older. I'm not sure how much older but it was like twice Peanut's size. So I am not sure about that, but he is extremely cute. I just want to make sure the lady wasn't mistaken.

You don't want to put 2 young boys together. If they go through adolescence at the same time, you will have squabbling guinea pigs on your hands.
