Introducing...
Hello everyone, I have been a member of this forum for a while, but I haven't had a piggie before. After doing months worth of research, and taking care of a friends guinea pig for a weekend while she was out of town, my mom finally agreed to let me get a guinea pig. I decied to rescue or adopt after reading many articles and posts on why buying is not a good idea. I couldn't find a guinea pig rescue in my area. The guinea pig I took care of for the weekend is my friend Lana's guinea pig. Sadly, she had to move and wasn't able to take Ginger with her. She asked me if I would take care of Ginger for her and I agreed. So now, I would like to introduce to you all, Ginger, my new piggie. She is pictured in my avatar, as I can not seem to upload a pic.She currently has a small cage, but I am in the process of adding a second level to a ferret cage I have. I am so excited, and can't wait to move her to a larger cage. Thanks so much for reading this! Any advise would be greatly appreshiated on any topic concerning Ginger.

Re: Introducing...
Please consider getting your little one a C and C cage. They really are the cheapest possible option and also have the proper amount of space. Check out this website: guineapigcages.com and also guinealynx.com. Both websites offer GREAT starter information!

Re: Introducing...
C&C cage, lots of hay, good quality pellets, Lots of veggies, and lots of love from her new piggy parent.
You should think about setting up a visit with a vet, just in case of emergency. You don't want to run around, and try and find a good vet - while your little one is sick. This way if you do it now, you'll have a vet that you already know, and trust.
The best of luck to the both of you!
Ginger is adorable by the way. (your avatar)

Re: Introducing...
The ferret cage may seem big, but ferret cages are really not appropriate for guinea pigs. Your pig will be much happier in a C&C cage.

Re: Introducing...
Ok, thanks so much for replying. I will ask my mom ASAP about a C&C cage. I am feeding her Oxbow pellets, lots of hay and giving her lots of loving.

Re: Introducing...
I think somebody here mentioned these 2 links, but I thougt they really would help get Ginger set up. The nice thing about a C&C cage, is that you can make it different, Ginger will be the only guinea pig to have that exact same cage. She's lucky to have you!

This one is great for giving ideas on how to build your own cage.
