new guinea pig mom in Houston

Hi. I'm new to guinea pigs.... am learning more every day! They certainly are fascinating creatures - and SO different from all other small animals I've co-habitated with in the past (mice, rats, gerbils). My daughter picked out a male guinea pig 3 weeks ago and we have in that time expanded his living quarters three times already. They need so much more room than they tell you in the pet store (I know, I know, I'm learning!). So, I know that I need to get a buddy for our male guinea pig and am looking to ADOPT a young male from the Houston, TX area.

Congratulations on the adoption of your piggie. I adopted my first one a couple of months ago, and now I'm completely in love with him. Within the next month or so I plan on upgrading his home (he's currently in a large store cage, but I give him floor time daily) and I hope to add a friend for him then.

so do you just have ONE? I keep reading that my piggie Neville would be happier if he has a buddy. So I'm looking around to adopt another young male. Don't want to go back to the pet store again (where I got Neville) - they don't know anything about guinea pigs and couldn't tell me anything about the one I bought (like his age). I do so want to give him everything he needs to make him happy. He started off in a little pet-store cage, then to a bigger cage, now I have half of my dining room blocked off just for him so he has enough walkin-around room! (who knew these little fellas needed so much room? not me... but I'm learning).

Hi, are you still looking for a male piggy in Houston? I took in a trio of dumped males and two are sweeties that would probably do well with a young friend. Let me know if you're still looking. CAP and the SPCA always seem to have GPs as well.

Thanks so much, but as it turns out, I took the advice of many piggie experts on this site and instead got a female guinea pig companion to go with our (now neutered) male GP. They are fast friends.
