Re: in memory of billy
I am so sorry about Billy. The exact same thing happened to my beautiful girl Laverne two months ago (her sister is Shirley--anyone older than 25-30 hopefully remembers the sitcom Laverne and Shirley). My husband was holding them and noticed Laverne's breathing was laboured. We cuddle them every day and she seemed fine the previous evening. I took her to a experienced piggy vet the next day (a Thursday) He said she had pneumonia in her right lung. He prescribed antibiotics, which we administered faithfully. I took her back on the Monday, and he listened to her chest and said she was improving. She had also gained back a little bit of weight. We were soooo happy and arranged a celebration dinner. When she got home, she went over to Shirley and they touched noses. She drank some water, ate some timothy hay, then went into her pigloo. I went to check on her about 20 minutes later, lifted up her pigloo, and found she had passed away. We were in total shock. We even tried giving her mouth-to-mouth, but it was no use.
We buried Laverne in our back yard in the flower garden. My husband made a wooden cross to mark her grave, and a friend of ours even had a granite grave marker made for her. I cannot believe how much I miss that little girl. Even now I am having a difficult time writing this. The only thing that helped us and our remaining piggy Shirley was adopting a new companion for her. Her name is Zippy and she's great. Shirley thinks she's Zippy's mother. Zippy also seems to think Shirley is her mom. Zippy grooms Shirley's fur and even cleans her ears for her. Zippy cries if she's separated from Shirley. I cannot imagine how difficult it will be for Zippy when Shirley passes. Shirley is about 3 1/2 years old and Zippy is about 6 months. She has helped ease the pain, but I will never forget my beautiful Laverne.
