Unhappy In memory of Wyatt

On tuesday night our guinea pig pumpkin had 3 beautiful little babies..

When we went in the room to say goodnight to all of our little friends, we looked in their dad wyatt's cage and he was just laying there. I picked him up because he's normally very talkative..

He started havinga seizure and me and my fiance held him for about a half hour and while my fiance was holding our little angel his heart stopped beating after some pretty severe seizures.

We're both very upset and he was our first pet together, we actually bought pumpkin so he would have a companion and we took her out of the cage to say goodbye and she just cried and all the babies cuddled up in his fur...

It was so sad.. we're still pretty upset about the whole situation...

I'm so sorry. What a shock. Had he been losing weight? Did he have any hairloss?

I'm glad Pumpkin had her babies without any problems. Please make sure you take the male babies away from the mom at 21 days old, or they will be able to impregnate her. It would be very bad for her to get back bred.

I am so sorry for your family's sudden loss. It is always hard to lose a beloved pet. May you find comfort in knowing that your pet was loved and well cared for.

Significant hairloss is a sign of mites. Severe mite infestations can cause seizures and death.

it was just one little spot, when we took him to the vet they couldn't find anything wrong thats why we got pumpkin... we wouldn't have gotten her without first consulting wyatt's piggy doctor, we want to make sure to have the safest home possible for our piggies.. where would they get mites anyways? we live in mn so it's not like they're ever outside.. especially not this time of year..

Mites are microscopic. It's thought that many guinea pigs always have them, and that when the guinea pig gets stressed they have an outbreak. They can only get them from another guinea pig, and many pet store guinea pigs have them.

I don't know if it was mites--doesn't really sound like it was. The only way to know for sure how he died was to have a necropsy done.

Please don't breed anymore. Figure out the sex of the babies and make sure to remove the boys at no later than 21 days. Guinea Lynx :: Sexing Pups

ya. we have 2 little girls and a little boy... we didn't really intentionally breed them the person who gave wyatt to us said he was neutered... and we didn't really ask the vet because we didn't think thast the person we adopted them from would lie about something like that but we're trying to actually adopt a boar for when wyatt jr is old enough... we're lookin at the twin cities animal rescue place
