This is a rescue and adoption forum. I am not saying that is ok to mistreat people, but if you go to a Christian church and talk about the devil do not expect silence. I feel sorry for the loss of the sow, and I understand 4H possition, but when you go out there and see so many pets neglected or worse, you should go out and get all you can to take care of (not too many, only what you can care and give good quality of life).

This is more than lossing a sow, is about giving a chance to those who doesn't have one.

I'm sorry soo many people here are VERY strict about the breeding and pet store thing they just sspeak what's on their mind and inforce it.

I for one, beleive if you have enough love and care to go around it is fine to have babies. But sometimes it is better to adopt. Both are fine and I love baby piggies they are soo CUTE!

Sorry for the loss of your beloved Fiona.

I was only saying to 4hpig's mother that I don't think it was ok that some people on here verbally bashed a child. Children are going to make mistakes. It's very sad that her pig died. I myself know that when something happens to my beloved Petey, I will be very very very upset. I took Petey in to prevent her from being euthanized at the shelter after her original owner died. I believe I did the right thing. And I do all the right things to care for her, including giving her all the attention and love that I can. But, due to my own health condition (which is very poor at times) and my financial circumstance (my health dictates that I have a low-stress job, which is low income) I can only afford to effectively care for one guinea pig. I think it would be cruel to take on another one knowing that I cannot financially afford to give it the care that it needs. That's as senseless as people who cannot afford to care for children continuing to have them. This should be an open forum to support those who have discovered the wonderful world of guinea pigs. And people who take in homeless pigs have alot of love in their hearts. We do our best, but we can't always be perfect owners, just as no parents are perfect. I was only saying that the little girl should, at the very least, have been offered sympathy for the loss of her pet. She was probably feeling badly enough as it was. Please understand, I'm not saying you personally bashed her, but some people did, and it was a bit uncalled for.

This young person didn't breed the sow on purpose., I do believe in adoption. But I have a question...to the RESCUE members; Do you have children of your own or adopted? Because there are also many children that need homes, not just Guinea Pigs. What are you going to do in a Guinea Pig unwanted pregnancy? get an abortion and then adopt, doesn't make any sense to me.
So don't be so hard, this is beginning to sound like a cult.

"That's not a valid reason to breed. If they wanted more guinea pigs, they could adopt. And they apparently do not feel guilty enough to stop breeding. "

I Sincerely hope that you don't feel that way about humans.

Not all people feel that adopting is better, but sometimes is is. I got Precious from a pet store and she is healthy. All of my other 4 pigs have come from pet stores and they were healthy to. Pet sotres and breeding aren't all that bad.

I'm torn on the adoption topic. I "inherited" Princess Petey from my friend, so I guess you could say I adopted her. I never saw myself caring for a guinea pig in the past, and I admit originally I took Petey in as a mission of mercy to prevent her from being euthanized. But now I wouldn't take a ranch in Texas for that precious little darling. I live in a pretty rural area where exotic pets are not the norm. It was hard to find a vet to treat Petey or a beautician to clip her nails. The shelter Petey was sent to after her mama died told me that most likely she would be put down because most people in my area did not adopt guinea pigs because they couldn't be sure of how old they were and if they were healthy. I wasn't about to leave Petey there. I tend to be a fan of adopting, simply because I see people go to a pet store and pay 5 or 6 hundred dollars for a dog when thousands are put to death each year simply because no one wants them. It makes me furious that many people only want dogs who are "pure bred". I have had a few "muts" over the years, dogs who just wandered up and adopted me and my family, and they turned out to be the most loving, wonderful pets. I am a strong advocate of all animal rescue operations. I understand we must breed pigs in order to continue the species, but I also think people looking for a piggie should consider adoption before looking at the pet store. That's just my personal view.

Who cares if your nine years old? Read the forum rules for getting on to something this forum is AGAINST. Plus! I don't even like to help peeps like you. So go on and stop making excuses! If she really loves them, she wouldn't give up no matter what. Oh, and by the way hun... if you read the forum rules you would know that the SHIFT button is for capitalizing letters at the beginning of the sentence. Tip: get your mom to check your posts. And isn't 4H a showing whatever? Against the rules!
