My precious long haired lilac and white Guinea died 7-23-08. One morning I was cleaning her cage and noticed that she was unusally still, I quickly called the vet and when we got there he said she had a URI gave her meds, fluid, B-12 and said she should hopefully feel better and he would check with me the next day. The next day came and once again we raced to the vet and he repeated the same thing, we did this 4 days in a row she acted like she was feeling better but still did'nt want to eat or drink (I had to hand feed and water her) checked on her late night early morning of the 22 and she was fine, Wed morning I went in to try to get her to eat and there she was as still as could be I gently shaked her and nothing OH MY GOSH I thought I was crying and screaming I picked her up she was still warm and raced her to the vet, but by then it was to late, the Doc had know idea what happened he was just as stunned as I was. I cannot believe she is gone she is so special and sweet our whole family will miss her. Her cage mate is on meds and now she will not eat or drink and she is so sad about losing Lilly. Lilly, one day I will see you again.
It sounds like she was a lucky piggie, with a piggie mom who loved her very much. I'm sorry for your loss. Give your other gp extra hugs and kisses!!!!
Thanks everyone, my Tiki is on fluids, B-12, antibiotic, and vitamin C. She is so sad she lays on Lilly's blanket and just stares. I know she misses Lilly and I don't know what else to do than lots of love and time. I would adopt another GP for her but I am not sure she is 100% better and I don't want to take the chance of another Guinea getting sick. What is the saddest part of all this is I have only had them for 7 months and they where adopted.
