I link it too. I belong to a msn group (no pets related), but I believe that this posting can teach people the difference between adoption or buying in a short time. Also, if someone in the group is considering getting a new pet might think adoption...

Thank you VoodooJoint!

The problem with buying from a pet shop to "save money"
At least in my neck of the woods, it is cheaper to adopt. I just adopted a young
bonded pair of guinea pigs (12/6 months) at $10.00 each. I was just at a local
pet store to purchase supplies and they were selling their young guinea pigs for
$34.00 each.

So adopting not only helps an animal in need of a home, but saves some money.

For the record, I would adopt even if it were more expensive . . just for the matter of principal.

I absolutely agree. I lost two from Petstores before I realized there were rescues. One within a week. No more petstores for me! I have also found that adoption is cheaper. I do look at the petstore piggies and it is hard not to want to take them all home. I am hoping to adopt a friend for our piggie that is left...someday, when the right one comes along. I think you know it when they do. I am also making a vet check appt for Fluffy right now with an experienced guinea pig vet. I really want my daughter to realize that you have to care for your animals correctly.

Thanks for all the info so far!

Since this thread has gone far off topic I have copied it as another sticky thread at the top on this forum and closed the original so that the information can be preserved without distraction.

I would prefer if any open sticky threads remain on topic. If you want to have a conversation take it to private messages or start a new thread in the appropriate part of the forum.

The sticky threads are "stickied" because they contain valid and important information. Off topic remarks lead away from the main idea or information and reduce the effectiveness of the original message.
