Default This is THE thread!

Hi everyone! Since there are so few of us active on this new forum, I thought it would be a good idea for us all to go onto one thread for awhile to talk. I think we should make this "the" thread and just put all of our discussions here until we get more members. It might not be "organized". I don't think all of us come here often enough to check the board for new posts yet.

We can just change the topic as we go.

Topic One:

What is your cavy's favorite vegetable?

My boy's favorite is carrots, but second is the tiny piece of "radicchio" that comes in their salad mix. They will dig around their entire pile of Spring Mix until they find that little purple cabbage looking thing and giggle with joy when they got it. They won't eat any other piece of lettuce until they have each found a little piece of "radicchio"

Chutt loves romaine all the time. But her second favorite varies. She goes crazy for chard, italian parsley, cilantro and dandelion greens, but only on a rotation basis! Fortunately, she has seven very devoted slaves keeping track of this week's goodie.

Hey! You forgot to give a new topic! ..oh wait... didn't I explain the rules??

Okay.. the rules:

You respond to whatever you want to, but you also add another "topic". This way we can keep the ball rolling..as each person comes into the thread we can have some great conversations about things.

New Topic:
How many hours do you find yourself learning about piggers online, and do you have memberships in other cavy forums?

Me? About 2 or more hours a night is spent reading, watching video's and talking on message boards.

Obsessed? No. Not ME!

Oh! I get it now! Thanks for explaining!

I spend about 20-30 minutes a day reading online and books and maybe another 15 minutes here and my other cavy forums. There is so much to learn!

New topic:
How long have you been a cavy slave? At what age did you get your first piggie?

My first little piggers arrived this year on Easter Sunday. It's funny, we didn't even realize it was Easter either. Hubby had taken me to the pet store for my 44th birthday because he had decided that I needed "something to love" since we don't have kids, and can't have free range pets in our building. He was sadly a petstore purchase, as we had no idea that you could even get them at the shelter. He was covered with lice and his ears are completely chewed off.

I was so clueless, that I didn't even know any of that. He and I just locked eyes, and it was love at first site. His hair is long as he's a coronet, so I hadn't even thought about it. He had his first wellness check at the vet that month. The vet was amazed at how he had no ears and said more than likely his mother was an overstressed mother who chewed off his ears from nervousness. It would certainly explain why he is so submissive.

Poor little guy!

The first day he came home I hit the internet to learn all I could and was shocked at what a stupid thing I had done after learning about pet stores from Cavy Spirit, Guinea Lynx, and other sites. We adopted a baby pig from the local cavy rescue and now we have two males. My cage is large enough for 3 or even 4 pigs so right now we are watching for someone who would be a good match for the 2 of them who are now closely bonded.

New Topic:

What have you learned in the cavy world that made you go: "Wow!"?

For me, it was that some people eat them. I mean, there sure isn't much meat to them! I know some folks eat squirrels but usually only if there is nothing else.

Oh and how little is actually known about guinea pigs in general. It seems like questions such as "what is normal amount of sleep for cavy" are almost impossible to find a scientfici answer to. Oh..and also I am shocked at how much smarter they are than people know, and how their language is so sophisticated.

Believe it or not, that there is such a thing as a Guinea Pig Rescue! I never thought at all about them being surrendered or unloved - who could not love them?

Next question:

"What, if anything, are your piggies getting for Christmas?"

Oh.. my boys got those pads and tents from Target. I went hog wild and got a bunch of the green/blue striped ones and the pet tents they had in early December for 2.50 in their dollar section.

I already gave it to them though! I couldn't wait. The tent is quite popular too! It's really cute to see them sitting in a little pup tent and looking back at you..

What about everyone else?

I wanted one because I wanted a pet and saw how fun and cute they are and he got his name (brownie) because hes brown
