Default Hello!

Hello, out there! My name is Sara, and I am a new owner of a rescued Guinea pig. I previously had two males and they died. The first died of unknown causes, and the second apparently died of lonliness about a month later. I was so sad that I swore I would never own another. But, my fiance's sister purchased (eek, I know) a pig for her son. And her dad wasn't too keen on the idea of having a rodent in their household as he is an experminator. As it was from the beginning, I had helped her to care for him properly, the pet store had told her she could use cedar for bedding, and had not told her to get vtamin drops for his water. He did not have any shelter inhis cage and no chew toys. So I told her things I knew that pigs needed from my past experience with them.

So, when her dad said the pig had to go she asked if I would like to have him as it was obvious that I cared about his wellbeing. So, now I have a new pig. The problem is, I'm sure he is very lonely. I would like very much to find him a friend. However, in my area, finding rescue pigs doesn't seem to be very easy.

I came to this site for two reasons, for one, to hopefully find my pig a buddy, and for two to brush up and learn more. Our current pig, Whiskey, seems to be pretty happy for the most part, he eats our fresh fruits and veggies like he's never had them before, and prolly hasn't, and he popcorns regularly, about every night. But I know that they do better in groups of at least two.

Thanks for listening to me ramble!

Where are you located?

You can do a search on this site for a rescue or shelter near you. Or you can check out Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. , or you can look for guinea pigs being rehomed on Craigslist.

Just wanted to update, that I finally did find a shelter that has some about an hour away from me. I have submitted an online application and am hoping they call me for a phone interview soon!

Hi! I came here with intentions similar to yours except that I've yet to actually have a guinea pig. I'm finding tons of great information online. I see a lot of people here referring links to Guinea Lynx :: A Medical and Care Guide for Your Guinea Pig I've spent some time there over the past week or two and it's top-notch with info.
