need some advice... is she sick?

My 11 yo daughter got a piggie about 2-3 weeks ago from a gal that breeds and shows pigs. The pig my daughter chose was a little older, but my daughter liked her because she was silky and pretty tame. The breeder estimated a good couple of years left in her. Everything was going great.... my daughter had become such a responsible pig owner, i was happy.

my daughter reported that her pig Skittles, had some diarrhea and now she is laying on her side. My daughter is of course freaking out, so i call all of the small creature vets in town and no one can help us until later on this week. (its Saturday). OR i can pay $120 to bring her in on an emergency basis (Shock)

can anyone give me some help here? I called and left a message with the breeder to see if she knows what may be happening, but i'm worried that by the time i get a call back it will be too late.

If you fed Kale or a lot of lettuce, that could be the cause of diarrhea, and she may just feel comfy on her side.

Breeder and pet store pigs are often sold sick.

Emily, that 'advice' isn't really helpful or accurate. Perhaps you should refrain from posting medical advice.

I'm sorry but you need to take your guinea pig to an experienced vet. Taking in a pet means providing good care including medical when needed.

well, Skittles just passed away and went to piggie heaven.

I realize it was a shock to you, but $120 for an emergency visit isn't all the expensive to many of us here.

Please don't buy from a breeder again. If you decide to get another guinea pig (although a pair is better), please adopt from a rescue or shelter.
