Red face Is my female in heat?

I have two female piggies and I have had their parts checked three times and they are both females. One of my females last night was making a kinda like a purring sound or rumbling sound and then she would stretch and stick her butt in the air. She is driving my other piggie nuts. She will stick her butt in the other ones face and then chase her around the cage. When she was sticking her butt out I managed to pick her up and turn her over and no parts were sticking out, so I know shes a girl, but is this normal?? Should they be separated when this happens?? The other one who I think is older (sorry I don't know their ages) has never done this before. thanks for everyones help

Probably. They go into heat about once a month. Some times you don't notice it.

It can also be dominance. But if it happens an increasingly long time, you may want to check her out for hormonal issues.

How long have you had them in the same cage? It may be dominance or heat.

They have been in the same cage for 4 months and it happened last month also, but my other piggie has yet to do anything, she has never made any noises or done the "dance" like this other one.

It's probably dominance, if your other hasn't done it.

I've noticed my pig Oreo doing the exact same thing but I was told he was a boy, so I don't know what to tell you.

Same sex pairs will hump each other for dominance. But here is a sexing guide for you http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

My friends' female pig acts similarly sometimes. I guess it must be because they're in heat. :/

We have four girls, and the three youngest have been doing it like clockwork, twice a month - guinealynx says they go in heat every 16 to 18 days. Our oldest had not been doing it because they say they calm down with age. However, now she does the purring quite a bit and it has been suggested that she has ovarian cysts, which they can get at that age. We are considering spaying for her, because she's acting like king of the hill all the time, and the others are sick of it.

Precious, our oldest, has been doing this for the past few days. She's dominant and it only goes on for about a week. Last night I couldn't hear the TV... only piggie purrs. Precious doesn't do this a lot but every once in a while, but now she has to rumblestrut more often since Nuggie going through adolesence.
