Default Pigs and Cats

Realistic chances of them coexisting? I'm looking into finding a new roommate, and one potential has two cats, who of course need to live with her.

My girls are in the living room in a big C&C cage. I know I can add shelf lids, but are they going to be terrified and stalked day in and day out?

Where can I do some more reading on this?

Thanks, all.

I know people who have cats and piggies without problem, but I'll say their temperament has a lot to do with what is going to happen. Why don't you get them all toguether and see?! If not sure don't risk it...

I have 2 cats and 11 piggies and they all get along just fine. My first and oldest piggie, "Piglet", actually is not caged and is not bothered by the cats. Sometimes one of the cats will chase Piglet back into the piggie room but he will come right back out. My oldest cat "Tigger" will sometimes go in a piggie cage and eat some of their hay with them. The piggies smell him and act curious but they continue eating hay beside him.

I think it may be how you react to the animals when they are together that makes a big difference.

I've got my 5 boys plus currently 5 foster piggies, plus one cat and 7 foster kittens. They all get along. The adult cat licks whichever guinea pig is sitting in my lap. The only thing to look out for is that the cat likes to sit in my lap too, and if there is a guinea pig, she'll sit down right on top of it! The kittens have a lot of respect for the adult pigs, they are curious but stay away (which is why I put them together - make them respectful for life of those big teeth!) The pigs are curious also.

I'd use a lid, for the time you cannot watch, but with the right cat, there should be no problem. Test it out, and try not to worry - the cats would sense it. Good luck!

Thanks for your insight, all. It turns out that the landlord changed the animal policy and will not longer allow new cats to be brought into the apartments, so there wasn't a need to worry after all.
