Default Gardens

I was just wondering if anyone else has a garden. In mine, i have grown a 42 lb pumpkin and a 7 lb zuchini. i also had a lot of tomatoes and some good peppers. I even had some corn. I'm pretty sure my garden is 5 x 10.

Oh, I've always wanted a food garden, but hubby says they aren't pretty enough for the front yard, and our backyard is already too small for the kids.

I do have a small container garden on the back porch, but that's mostly lettuce and clover for the piggies!

I have a garden too! It's like 25 feet by 50 feet - but the pumpkin vines are taking over most of it. Next year I will only put out a few seeds. We've had a very wet year and apparently the pumpkins like it.
I have tomatoes but the grasshoppers seem to eat them before I can get to them.
My pumpkins have a lot of blossoms but hardly any fruit. I was able to make only one pie so far! My tortoises like to eat the pumpkin blossoms though so it's still worthwhile.
My squash is doing really well. I have spaghetti squash and butternut. I've actually used the butternut squash to make pies for lack of pumpkins and it turned out better than the pumpkin pie!
I am also growing some hibiscus, mesclun, dandelion, plantain and chicory specifically for the tortoises (shared by the GPs).

I have a little garden. It's about 8X15', and then there's a long strip garden along the south side of the house. We have tomatoes, sugar snap peas, sunflowers, and herbs.

For the piggies, I planted Italian flat parsley, which grows marvelously well here, and cilantro, which always seems to bolt and go to seed before producing many usable leaves. Too bad, because the cilantro is really much better for them, as far as the calcium/phosphorus ratio. We also have ornamental fennel for the piggies, which is just a very dark variety. The fennel is on the left side, between the fence post and my daughter:

And this year, my dad took it upon himself to plant pumpkins, which was sweet, but did we really need so many? How I wish he'd just put in half a dozen seeds. The vines are taking over. I had thought some of them were zukes or squash, but nope, they are ALL pumpkins.

Squash pie is actually much better than pumpkin, my mom has always told me.

I know fried squash blossoms are a delicious delicacy, I'll bet you could do that with some of your pumpkin blossoms, too!
