Guinea Pig Shelters?

I live in NYC, and I am looking for a nearby guinea pig shelter. Close to NYC, Brooklyn, or not far away in Jersey. I'm very desperate right now, and I'm moving in just four days! I must find a home for my two pigs, or I will be forced to take them to a shelter. Does anyone know what to do in my situation? I have possibly found a home for Panda, but I need someone to take her son Coco. Please help?!

He is about 7-8 months old. He's very sweet and a bit shy. He doesn't mind being held or cuddled, but prefers to run around in his cage and act silly. He's very quiet, unless he's running low on water - then he'll squeak for a few seconds to let me know he needs something.

Do you know any links/names of the rescue groups?

I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't commit to them for any length of time. You haven't had them for long.

I assume you've tried craigslist? Freecycle? Not that giving away piggies gratis is a good idea, but maybe better than shelter-dumping. A good way to screen for snake owners is to insist on delivering your pigs to their new home. Snake owners scan the ads looking for free rodents.

I don't live in New York City, but if you check Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - or ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals they have anything and everything up for adoption. Good luck!

I read on the NY craigslist that there were 2 guinea pigs left in a box on the sidewalk with a free sign on them. Someone did take them in. I wonder if it could have been Panda and Coco. So sad.

Aww, I hope that isn't what happened, hopefully she will tell us what happened because it does worry you hearing that.
