They can go into heat any time, and probably have already. They will go into heat about every 14-17 days. You won't notice anything, unless you have a male around. Guinea pigs do not bleed, that I know of. Humans are actually rather unusual in that regard, as our bodies prepare for pregnancy in advance. Other animals' bodies don't begin to prepare for pregnancy until AFTER fertilization. Interesting, huh?

Enjoy your little piggies. Are they popcorning all over the place? So fun.

Wow! Thanks so much! That got rid of all my worries about a mess. So, no there are no males, so they won't bleed?

And yes, I actually just got them a bigger cage a week ago, and ever since then, they've been popcorning non stop! I just love it! And them!

GP females do not bleed during heat with or without a male around. If you see blood then it is most likely a UTI and a vet visit is needed.

The only thing you may notice is that the girl in heat sometimes becomes more sexually aggressive. She will chase, rumble and mount her cage mate. It's nothing to worry about and you do not need to separate them.

Ha, no, I just meant with a male around, you might notice an increase in humping, that's all. There should be no bleeding ever. Like VJ said, blood means something is wrong.

Overpopulation happens one litter at a time. It only takes one litter to kill a sow. One litter is not okay. Please don't breed. If you want more pigs there are plenty sitting in rescue and on death row in shelters that need homes. Many of those pigs are the result of the "just one litter" mentality.

You can keep the male and female separated and take your male pig to a vet to be neutered. That will solve the baby issue.

actually i'm not trying to breed. i DO want to keep a litter that is why i said ONE LITTER IS FINE. and keeping guinea pigs apart is NOT what i got two for. so does anyone know the answer to my questions about the making noises? and the price of getting a male neutered?
