Default Adopted in NYC

I recently adopted a guinea pig named Pancake. He was about three years old, and while he adjusted to the change of homes well he seemed to be a little depressed. I logged on to all the cavy websites I could find, and read 5 books on social behavior of guinea pigs. I realized that he must be lonely. Even though I have at least 2 hours of floor time with him a day. So after much consideration I decided the only way to lift his spirits was to get him a friend. I was a little apprehensive about finding another guinea pig to adopt in NYC because it took me soo long to find him. So I called around to different places and found a Petstore that had an adoption center for small furry friends. I called them up to see if they had any young male guinea pigs for adoption and they did! So the next night I rushed across town after work, and checked out the selection. I found a spirited little one and knew that he was the one. I took him home, and let him settle into his new home. They both have slowly become familiar with each other and are soo cute when they cuddle. The younger one is Wilbur (he is the multicolored one). So I took these pics of them today, and decided to post them. Enjoy! And thanks to everyone who helped me find them.

It's great that you decided to adopt instead of buying a piggie and Pancake is ADORABLE!! so is Wilbur! I'm glad he has a companion, they do very well in groups. Since you have two piggies now have you expanded your cage? Do you use the C & C Cages... for two it's best to have a 2 x 4 or bigger. Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home has so many different ideas on cages, hidey houses, hay lofts, etc.

yes, I am considering buying just one big cage for the two. I am a little worried because Pancake seems to be a little aggressive with Wilbur at times. Although he has never hurt him I'm just worried if I'm not around and they are left together what might happen. So I am still doing loads of floor time with them so they get even more friendly. Also saving money to get just the right size for the two of them, as I want to keep them in my bedroom. Thanks for the post though.

Hi Piggieluver85,
do you mind telling me where you found your piggies? I have been searching shelters etc. with no luck and definitely don't want to go to petco. I had previous great luck adopting a hamster from the Hamster Lady, and would like to go the same route. Am looking for 2 very young males or females to grow up with my animal-besotted 7-year-old.
thanks very much! petlover7

Thank you for the photos Piggieluver85 and especially for taking the time to adopt. Pancake and Wilbur look very pretty, sorry boys, handsome.

petlover7 keep on trying. I am sure there are special piggies out there that need a home and believe me they will give you a great sense of achievement. Good on you!!!
