Default Warning

I was recently contacted by someone claiming to be a science teacher regarding my classified ad. He said he wanted to buy as many guinea pigs as I had for a guinea pig farm because "guinea pigs were made to be fed on" and he apparently wanted to raise them as food. Needless to say, I told him I wasn't interested. Watch out, folks!

oh! That is not nice...It doesn't really surprise me most people that know that I have GPs wonder about them as food. They do not have any problem telling me!

Also they talk about them as snake food...grrr!

It's a scam email. Most of the rescues I know of have received them. Ignore them.

You really have to be careful with your personal information these days. There's a lot of mean people out there.

My brother said that after watching a show on the travel channel called "Bizarre Foods" that had the host eating guinea pigs in South America, he would be interested in trying them as a meal. I think he just says those kind of things to annoy me but I would hate to think that someone may actually try eating piggies because of a television program.

Eating a guinea pig is no different then eating a cow, a chicken, a pig, a dog, a horse or any other animal. I have a hard time understanding how people can differentiate between which animals are food and which are not.

I agree. And my family have no problem calling them either rats or baccon.

I thought it was kind of creepy that this person wanted to eat my guinea pig because she was in the classifieds to be adopted as a pet. I guess it was gross because I have a relationship with the animal he wanted to eat. But more disturbing was the way he was trying to get personal information out of me. I specifically told this person that I was looking for a good home for her and he said he wanted to farm guinea pigs for food and would I sell her to him. I think its just a scam to get personal information.

Me and my mom joke when we have a cook out and say "Go got the pig, I want some baccon" and stuff like that.

I think that if someone emailed me asking me to give them my pig to eat it i would be mad and not do it. When you have a connection with your piggie you cant just give it someone off the streets so they can have a snack.

I think eating a guinea pig is eatting a squirrl. I don't know about you guys but I don't want to eat a squirrl.

If you are putting up an ad, everyone, you should ask things about them whether they have had piggies before and things like that. I have tried to adopt piggies several times from this forum but something always went wrong. Anyways all the rescues and people would always ask me those kind of questions. Just to make sure they would be safe, happy, and heathly.

I didn't mind answering those questions because I knew I was going to be able to have another piggie and be able to take care of it and love it.

But everyone should be careful anyway. Watch out for the people you give your piggies to.
