My wiggly pig has a tumor!
Hello guys,
Ive just joind and im so depressed, took my guinea pig Henrietta to the Vet on Monday and she was diagnosed with a tumor, which is on her belly just above her bak legs, its so big and its not causing her pain, shes happy, still eating and is still talking away, (you usual happy guinea pig noise that everyone lose)
I cant do nothing accept just spend my time with her, what she has left, im so down i keep crying its my last guinea pig and i dont want her to be in pain so when she does start to go down hill i suppose i will have to take action.
Any advice, im so upset.....

I'm so sorry. I know it's hard. Maybe surgery is an option.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. If she's happy and not in pain, that's something to be thankful for. Just love her like crazy.
Vet says there's nothing to be done?

Did the vet do a culture, or a biopsy? How did he come up with the diagnosis? Most tumors, cysts, etc. can be removed surgically with no problems.

Ditto foggy. Most lumps are non cancerous.

Re: My wiggly pig has a tumor!
The vet said that if she was a young guinea pig (she is 7) then she would probably consider doing it, but the lady said it will cost 60-100pounds (pound sign not working on keyboard for some reason.) and theres a 50-50 chance she may or may not pull through, and i dont want to confuse her or leave her sore from an operation, know where im coming from guys? :-(
she felt the lump and said it was a cancerous tumor

Re: My wiggly pig has a tumor!
Im very sorry. Just spend lots of time and love and hopefully everything will come through. She has lived a long life and she is with lots of love. I recently lost one of mine, and it was hard. Eventually I got over it after a little bit. Enough to get my other one a buddy. I hope you are doing well and so is your piggy.

Re: My wiggly pig has a tumor!
Sure, 7 years is on the old side for a pig, but many 7 year olds can withstand surgery with no problems. It depends on the health and condition of the pig.
And even though it sounds like you have confidence in your vet, there is no way she could tell it was cancerous just by feeling it.
I realize that you must do what you can financially. You will have to consider humanely euthanizing her when the time comes--perhaps start saving now.

Re: My wiggly pig has a tumor!
Yeah, I just put her back in the hutch as shes been out running around in the guinea pig run, which is a good sign but i am finding she just sits there for a while and then moves again, she isnt as active as she was, whihc is understandabe if she has a bump on her tummy, i fed her dandilions from the garden which she wolfed down, and she chiruped so she happy. Just so upsetting, :-(
She also has a white coating on her eyes, is that caterax?? Meaning she going blind.?? :-(
