Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA PHS is one of the best shelters in the state, but like all shelters, they do euthanize when they can't adopt out. They always have guinea pigs and other small animals for adoption. They get a lot of traffic, so odds of adoption are high.

Since we are contracted with all cities in San Mateo County, we have no control over the number of animals we receive (15,000 last year). We cannot selectively choose which animals to accept or limit our services to only these animals with a good chance of being adopted. We accept all animals, and often provide a second chance to the most needy animals…animals who would otherwise be turned away at smaller adoption agencies that accept only those animals deemed highly adoptable. Our record is outstanding. For two years, we have adopted 100% of healthy (physically and behaviorally) dogs and cats. In addition, we use resources to make well, then adopt, between 100-120 treatable animals each month. Sadly, in some cases (underage animals who cannot survive in a shelter environment, animals that have proven to be aggressive or those with injuries beyond our means to treat given the fact that we receive close to 25 dogs and cats daily!) all we can provide is a painless ending when resources have been exhausted.
They actually have two 2x4 C&C cages which CavySpirit helped setup. They ALWAYS have guinea pigs, rats, hamsters and rabbits for adoption. They will take in animals from out of the area.
