Hamilton SPCA The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is a private not-for-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, the rescue and adoption of homeless pets, providing support to keep pets in loving homes, and the development of respect, compassion and empathy for every living creature.
The Hamilton\Burlington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is not a government organization. It is a registered charity not-for-profit organization devoted to the prevention of cruelty to animals. The Society relies strongly on public and corporate donations, legacies, and fundraising campaigns to fund its operations.
The generosity of the community we serve helps us support the animals in our care and allows us to give something back to our community by offering a wide range of programs and services.
As an affiliate of the Ontario SPCA, our staff includes Inspectors and Agents given the same authority as police officers, under the OSPCA Act, when enforcing laws dealing with cruelty to animals.
A fourteen member volunteer Board of Directors, elected annually from the local community, governs the Society. The board also includes an appointed representative from the Hamilton City Council. There are several Board committees that concentrate on specific aspects of the Society's work and recommend courses of action to the full Board of Directors.
Our Vision
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA will be the community leader in animal welfare -- more specifically -- animal protection, advocacy, adoption, and education.
We will be a recognized asset to our community and will contribute leadership within the animal welfare movement at the community, provincial and national levels.
Our Values
We value a society where all life is cherished and respected. We value the bond of trust and love between humans and animals.
We value the necessity to educate our children, our youth and our citizens to respect all living creatures.
We value strong legislation protecting animals from cruelty and exploitation.
We value courage, commitment and passion in those working to make the world a better place for all animals.
